A stroll along Rue du Bac, Paris

There’s a magic to shopping in Paris that no other city can match. Besides the well-known places, I love going out for hidden gems, so this time I chose Rue du Bac, where quirky boutiques abound, with chic home furnishings and accessories, gourmet food shopping, jewelry, antiques and fine art.

The instant I stepped in Du Bout Du Monde, I felt I found myself in Miss Havisham’ Satis House, from Great Expectations movie (1998). This shop reveals the French art of living where everything is harmony and sophistication, with timeless elegance of the natural materials.

Ignace Paris, with their inspiration drawn from the Art Deco, offer a large range of jewellery items made of semi-precious gems all of them being set manually in their workshop in the Parisian district called Saint Germain des Prés. “Precious drops of topaz, citrine, amethyst, peridots, moonstones … enhance airy and elegant string of pearls, precious necklaces, fine earrings and bracelets either on a chain or on a silk thread.” Unfortunatelly, they do not allow taking pictures of the refined jewellry inside the store, but you can visit them on www.ignace-paris.com.

I have just come back from Paris. I lived in Paris many years and was wondering what happened to the wonderful shop on Rue De Bac that had lovely tablecloths , flatware and glasses. It was on a corner...

Thanks so much

You sound like me Denise! I lived in Paris in 1981-1983 I went back to Rue de Bac and found my friend and her shop nearly ten years ago. Good luck in finding the shop you search!

I think that was Diners en Ville, 27 rue de Varenne, and cannot find any evidence of its existence now. Also known at 89 rue du Bac. What a lovely store. I do miss it.
