Tulipán 2009 is a beautiful cuvée of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Shiraz. It is the top wine from Ikon winery, around Balaton lake region and against all odds, I found it as a great pairing for Thai and Vietnamese food tried at Madam Noi restaurant, downtown Budapest. It pairs very well with duck, beef and game (deer, venison), too. Common aromas range from ripe black fruit to coffee and oak notes that you will feel for long time in your mouth. Tulipán is rich, full, harmonious in the mouth with medium to high acidity and tannins.

It’s an outstanding Hungarian red wine I highly recommend.
