Cund, Valea Verde, the perfect setting for your vacation in Transylvania
If you want your vacation to be unique, memorable, meaningful.
Valea Verde– exquisite location, serene and peaceful scenery, fine wines and even finer dishes with truffle touch.
I choose this place every time I want to escape from the city, within few hours of driving from Bucharest. Valea Verde is located in Cund, Mures county, in the heart of Transylvania, a place owned and runned by 2 great people, Jonas and Ulrike Schäfer. It is 1 hour drive from Sighisoara- the medieval fortified town.
In the authentic renovated complex in the Valea Verde, you can enjoy the culinary treats cooked by Jonas, the owner, the truffle hunting in the incredibly beautiful forests around, the horseback riding, the leisure time at the natural pool and the long walks on the hills similar to the Tuscan ones.
What really stands out here is the culinary experience that beat many of the *Michelin rated restaurants.
Food is cooked as a blend of ancient tradition and modern experience. Jonas can make you a star out of the polenta terrine layered with gorgonzola, caramelized pears and walnuts, with a fig infused red & port wine reduction and Transylvanian Angus beef, paired with a 2007 Chateau Vieux Rivallon, from Saint- Emillion.
You can have wild boar paired with a glass of Côtes du Rhône, Brunello or Barolo or cheese ravioli and a bottle of plumy and berry Syrah, either way the experience is exquisite and surprising. Your never know what you are being served with, but delightly surprised every time. You can only talk to Jonas in the beginning about your likes and dislikes in terms of food, and the dinner comes out just as his incredible creation.
At lunch, I love the truffle pasta with a glass of aged Barolo.
The breakfast consist of homemade jams and marmalades, fresh vegetables from their garden, bread rolls just taken out of the oven, Benedict eggs with summer truffles.
The beatiful pond is designed to fit in the landscape.
In terms of bedding, two of my favorites are apartment 3, a four poster bed with a baldachin
and Casa Varga, an old Saxon farmhouse at the top of the village center of Cund.
If you are looking for a hide away for a quiet and private dinner in a beautiful and relaxed atmosphere, the Red Room is your place! In an old converted barn it is situated just 20m from the Valea Verde Restaurant.
Late in the evening, you can enjoy a glass of wine, the chimney fire, the silence, until the candles start to fade..
You come here as a guest and you leave as a friend, you meet hospitable owners that are really passionate about what they do and are directly involved in delighting customers.
I dearly recommend this place for a memorable vacation in Transylvania.
